“We loved our hike in the Carpathian Mountains and would thoroughly recommend it. The following are our thoughts and suggestions in no particular order. We chose a hike where we didn't have to carry our luggage for two reasons - 1. none of us like carrying heavy packs, and 2. two in the party were continuing traveling so had cases that were not just for a week in Romania. All the pensions were delightful, as were the patrons. In Pensiunea Garofita in Zarnesti, the food was very good and we loved making our own picnics at breakfast. We always felt taken care of and looked after. Mr Florin was a delightful addition. A charming man, who, despite the deluge, trotted up with his pony and wagon, and cheerfully transported us to the B&B. He was an example of the strong contrast between old and new - the scythe alongside the BMW. We would have loved him to take us back to our starting point the next morning (when it wasn't raining!). A great trip and we look forward to hiking again with you.” Elizabeth, July 2009. |
