| Danube Delta & Dobrogea | The Danube ends its course by forming a wide delta of 5 000 km2, before merging its waters with those of Black Sea. Uncountable lakes and canals of any sizes form an aquatic labyrinth where grow, as far as the eye can see, rushes and water lilies. But the Delta also shelters improbable forests and sand dunes... This territory where seem to mix the Romanian ground with the Black Sea is also the paradise of the autochthonous and migratory birds. If 5000 sorts of species are listed in the Delta, it is unquestionably the pelican (about 2500 live here) who symbolizes the best this territory. Little numerous, the delta inhabitants deserve however to be known for the culture that they developed for decades in almost autarky. The Lipovènes (the former believers) with their exile of Russia constitutes a particularly interesting example among the European minorities.
