Discover Romania with Europe Active

Going to Romania, is choosing to travel differently. Here, the life takes another dimension and you will rediscover the lost paradise in the countryside which lives at the rhythm of the seasons. You will see here a way of life disappeared elsewhere:  the life of the villagers, highly respectful of nature and traditions.

With the Danube River providing a natural border in the South and crossed by the Carpathian Mountains, Romania also possesses a coast of about 200 km on the Black Sea. These geographical factors result into some of the most varied landscapes in Europe and into an abundance of places perfectly adapted to hiking and cycling tours, where the active tourists will find their happiness.

Romania is a place where the nature is widely protected. Did you know, for example, that Romania has 17 natural reserves (among which some date from the '30s) or that Romania was the first state to sign the Kyoto protocol? The nature offers a unique spectacle in Europe. 2000 wolves still live in the Romanian forests as well as a high number of bears, lynx, deer and chamois. The flora is also great and the some of the most beautiful forests (you can find here silvery lime trees, elms, maples) cover 30 % of the country.
Numerous endemic species contribute to the  specificity of the country, and you can admire: the beauty of the wallflower of Piatra Craiului, the wild sophore of the Babadag Forest or the wallflower of Rodnei Mountains....

Besides the beautiful nature, you will soon discover the beauty of the Romanian people, who are known to be among the friendliest and most hospitable people on earth. Whether you are on a steep path of the Carpathian Mountains, on the road of the mysterious monasteries of Bucovina or embarked on a canal of the Danube Delta, there will always be somebody to share with you a moment of life and a glass of Tzuica (the local home made plum brandy).

Romania has a very complex history with cultural influences from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, from the Turkish people, also from the Slav countries surrounding it and of course from the Latin culture. Our journeys grant a lot of attention on cultural aspects and will allow you to understand this great history.

Once you come to Romania, it will be hard for you to leave it.
